For the sake of the public, please do not loosen this rule. I am happy to give glasses and contact prescriptions after each exam. The problem that I have is when I am seeing patients that have been ordering their contacts online for 4-5 years without seeing a doctor and already have corneal damage, scarring, neovascularization due to sleeping in their contacts for too long. If patients do not have to get a renewed prescription they will not come in for evaluation and who knows what shape their eye will be in? The online companies already don't abide by the rule. We get refill faxes routinely in the middle of the night and by the time we get back in the office to say they haven't had an exam in two years they have already filled the prescription. No one is enforcing the law as it is. If it is loosen who knows what will happen. Also, companies are already substituting whenever they feel like it to the detriment of the patient. If the contact lense doesn't fit right anymore, due to overwear, giant papillary conjunctivitis from stretching contacts, etc. patient can have horrible side effects. Please get more information from doctors about what the true damage to patients vision could be. Thank you for your time. If you have any more questions, or need photos of issues please let me know as I would be happy to help. Dr. Sheryl Pickering
