As an eye care provider, my goal each day is to help my patients see better and keep their eyes heathy for as long as they live. I am deeply saddened to see contact lenses be treated as a commodity. They are a medical device. Period. Unfortunately, too many of us have witnessed patients that have severely damaged their corneas due to contact lens prescriptions being filled incorrectly, or for amounts more than the doctor has prescribed. Even one patient losing sight over the greed of online retailers is one too many. It is fair to the consumer to be able to purchase lenses wherever they desire. But there needs to be a better way to handle online retailers over-selling what is prescribed by a doctor.
