As an eyecare provider I see patients daily with complications from contact lenses. The majority of these complications are due to poor compliance and ordering contact lenses online with the terrible passive contact lens verification system. Often they are "talked into" ordering a different lens than prescribed because it is cheaper and the online contact companies assuming make a larger profit on it. These lenses are often of lower oxygen permeability and poor fitting on the patients eye with significant keratitis present. The contact lens rule should be amended to force online retailers in particular 1-800-contacts, to actively verify prescriptions and they should not be allowed to fill an rx for more than a 1 year supply, 1 time! Online retailers should also assume all liability for lenses patient's damaged corneas due to their negligence/lack of confirming correct rx and selling contact lenses on an expired prescriptions. 1-800-contacts is infamous for this and often patients cone in years later in a random contact l r ns that was not presribed. Please keep our patients safe by continuing to require an annual exam and prescription for this medical device!! Thank you, Jill
