Prescription eyewear is a medical device, not a commodity. The human eye does not have an early warning system for internal disease - glaucoma, etc. Just because you "see fine" doesn't mean there isn't silent eye disease - hence the need to assess for these conditions during the course of checking an eyeglass prescription, with a requisite expiration. Medicines such as birth control pills are not found in vending machines - neither should prescription glasses manufactured from expired prescriptions.
