Contact lenses are a medical device. It's imperative that in order to protect the patient's eye health that they be evaluated annually. I have had many patients with unhealthy blood vessel growth and cornea swelling because they have over worn their contacts lenses. Many times, scarring can prevent the patient from wearing contact lenses in the future or even causing their vision to be reduced permanently. All contact lenses do not fit the same. A professional needs to evaluate each type of lens on the patient's eye. Prescriptions can also change dramatically from year to year. It is unsafe for the public to have drivers on the road with unevaluated vision. It is imperative that the driving population be evaluated annually to insure public safety.
