16 CFR Part 315; Agency Information Collection Activities: Review; Comment Request; Contact Lens Rule: FTC Project No. R511995
The current law is fine but too often ignored/ unenforced. It is not unusual for patients to receive contact lenses from mail order before a fitting is completed and a valid prescription has been finalized and issued. Lenses are regularly supplied after the one year limit is well expired. Many times lenses are dispensed that are not the brand or prescription that was written. Many times, 1-800 contacts has left a message on my answering machine at 1:00 AM requesting Rx to supply contacts and the connection convieny cuts out just as they are about to tell the patient's name. That way, there is no way way for me to approve or disapprove the Rx within 48 hours. The current law has to be properly enforced.
