16 CFR Part 315; Agency Information Collection Activities: Review; Comment Request; Contact Lens Rule: FTC Project No. R511995
Contact lenses have serious adverse side effects. These serious ocular complications occur most commonly after the initial fitting period. There are many accounts of corneal ulcers and inflammatory eye disease which result in vision loss due to lack of professional supervision and guidance. The best way to prevent these serious complications is to evaluate contact lens users at least once per year. While advancements in technology have improved overall safety it is still not uncommon for these complications to occur. Knowledgeable eye care professionals should be responsible for the fit of contact lenses and will lose that ability of for profit interested parties have their way. When companies authorize countact lens supplies at will with complete disregard for eye health they are more interested in profits than public safety. Thank you.
