It is so important for eye health that patients have an annual eye exam to ensure that they are safely wearing their contact lenses. Patients already take liberties with recommended replacement schedules and that puts their eye health and vision at risk. It is imperative to maintain a one year expiration for contact lens prescriptions and a two year expiration for glasses as it allows Optometrists to ensure continued eye health and best corrected vision. Contact lens complications could cause serious quality of life issues for patients if not addressed promptly. These complications can include chronic reduced oxygen transmission with new blood vessel formation and scarring which could permanently affect vision. Also, contact lens technology is improving all the time and yearly appointments allow for Optometrists to make the best recommendations.
