I've been in practice over 8 years now, and now more then ever I'm finding that patients are buying contacts on line without being required to have their prescription varified yearly. Pts are coming in with 4-5 year old prescriptions telling me on line retailers are filling it without a problem. Patients are coming in with more eye irritation from over wearing contacts and wearing wrong prescriptions they buy on line. Contact lens companies are sending verification requests at night or Friday evening when no one is at the office to verify or deny rx seems very wrong that this practice is allowed. Things must change to protect consumers ocular health. Contact lenses are medical devices which can do severe harm to eyes if not properly controlled and monitored by licensed doctors.
