I have been an optometrist for 16 years and it practice the entire time this current law has been in place since 2004. If the government is going to classify contact lenses as a medical device, then requiring an active verification should be required. 1 800 contacts and companies like them don't follow the rules, do everything they can to get around the rules, so they can sell more contacts. They are absolutely not under any circumstance concerned about the patients I help and the long term consequences of wearing incorrect contacts. Over the years I have heard hundreds of times that patients simply order of the brand they like in the power they like and make changes all by themselves and they don't realize they're doing something illegal. When I confront the patient and tell them that it is illegal they said well then how can the company be getting away with that and I said lack of enforcement from the federal government. What's the point of a contact lens law is the rules that exist in it are followed or enforced? Either declassify contacts as a medical device which is obviously not something I support or treat it like a medical device that it is and require active verification. Thank you for your time.
