The health and safety of the patient is first. Patients need to be evaluated on a yearly basis to make to no corneal damage is taking place and to educate patients yearly about safe contact lens use. Companies are abusing the rule by filling precriptions for 10 plus years without successful verification. When no response is received a prescription should not be filled. The question should be asked is the same procedure in place for medicine? This is why there are patients presenting with oxygen deprivation and eye infections because of inadequate verification.
