As a prevention specialist in the realm of drug prevention I feel a marketing study would be very beneficial. We know that there is high prevalence of high school students who are using electronic cigarettes. Health information is beginning to emerge: however marketing information would be valuable. I would like to know what safeguards are being used to prevent marketing to youth. Also is any part of the marketing efforts going to prevent underage customers from accessing their products. I believe a state by state sales comparison would be helpful in influencing state policy, because we could look at sales in states that have tighter laws pertaining to the sales of electronic cigarettes. This could assist stakeholders in influencing policy makers for policy change to encourage healthier lifestyles. I feel as a prevention specialist one the main areas of concern in regard to electronic cigarettes is that customers especially minors do not perceive any danger associated with their use. Market research would help the public health community counter the perceived risk and possible deceptive advertising by visualizing the goals and areas of electronic cigarette marketing. Thank you for your time and I look forward to the possibility of this new research. Travis Cain Certified Prevention Specialist Anderson Behavioral Health [Redacted]
