The only thing this rule is accomplishing is companies are distributing contacts to patients without verification and patients are then abusing their contacts. It is absurd that we are only given eight hours to respond. It should be written that they can't fill until we respond. Why should it be any different than medication? You need a valid prescription that is obtained during normal business hours and is not filled until that prescription is released by the pharmacist (from one pharmacy to another). If there is question from the pharmacy they call to verify with the doctor. They absolutely don't fill it until they hear back from the doctor. The same should go for contacts. Not only are the requests not during business hours but I've had several that are to incorrect fax numbers. So they proceed to fill it because "we didn't respond" meanwhile the script verification is in the wrong hands to verify it. Yet "they faxed it and followed the rules". Such a joke. You are endangering people's health and vision if this rule is not changed to include that they must get a response before they can fill it. Contacts are a medical device. It's time you treat it as such.
