Contact lenses are considered medical device. According to Webster dictionary "A medical device is an instrument, apparatus, implant, in vitro reagent, or similar or related article that is used to diagnose, prevent, or treat disease or other conditions." There is no reason for anyone to override doctor's prescription or extend doctor's prescription without doctor's approval. Optometrist went to school in order to be able to fit a patient with a proper contact lens and no one other than the optometrist should change patient's prescription.
