This act is imperative to the well being of the general public. My sister is proof that contact lenses must be fit correctly by an eye doctor because they are medical devices. One year ago my sister contacted 1-800-contacts with an expired prescription because she knew that they didn't follow the law and would send her contacts anyways. It had been 2 years since she saw an optometrist. Needless to say the contact lenses were the wrong fit and my sister ended up with a severe reaction resulting in a corneal transplant. After this horrible experience I believe that only doctors should be able to regulate and supply contact lenses. It should be mandatory to see an optometrist yearly to prevent any complications. Contact lenses are medical devices and I am glad that this act protects the public from over abusing this product.
