16 CFR Part 315; Agency Information Collection Activities: Review; Comment Request; Contact Lens Rule: FTC Project No. R511995
Contact lens sellers have repeatedly violated both the law and the intent of the rule by engaging in the following practices: 1. Selling a year's worth (or more) of contact lenses when the prescription is about to expire in a week or two 2. leaving a voicemail at the prescribing doctor's office on a Friday night, with the included comment that if the doctor does not verify the Rx within 24 hours, they will sell the contact lenses to the patient -- instead of allowing the required two business days for the doctor to inform the seller whether or not it is even a valid prescription 3. Contacting the doctor to authorize a contact lens prescription on a patient whose contact Rx has expired by aYEAR or more!
