As an Optometrist, I cam greatly concerned about the FCLCA and Contact Lens rule. I want to stress that this law doesn't do enough to protect the public health with regard to eye health in contact lens wearers. I regularly encounter patients who have purchased contact lenses from online retailers for several years without getting an eye exam. This puts their eye health at risk and it my belief along with the American Optometric Association that yearly eye exams for contact lens wearers is necessary and can prevent contact lens related eye disease. Many online retailers do not do a good job in verifying the accuracy of contact lens prescriptions. I frequently encounter orders that were processed without my verification and have included wrong brand, size, and prescription. This can negatively affect the patient's vision and eye health. I believe many of these loopholes should be fixed, because as it stands, it is extremely easy for patients and vendors to get around the current law as it stands. I urge you to strengthen the FCLCA. Warm regards, Darryl, Grace, O.D
