As an eye care professional, I feel it is the patient's best interest of safety if the contact lenses are fit, evaluated, prescribed, and purchased from their eye care provider. This will eliminate prescription errors, incorrect base curves, materials, and over wear of contact lenses. Do not forget that contact lenses are medical devices, and it only seems appropriate that they are treated as such. This would include purchasing the medical device from an eye care professional, not a huge company that has no interest in the patient's eye health. This could help prevent debilitating eye diseases such as corneal ulcers, abrasions, and microbial keratitis.
