16 CFR Part 315; Agency Information Collection Activities: Review; Comment Request; Contact Lens Rule: FTC Project No. R511995
In my experience, online retailers verifying prescriptions before selling to consumers is the exception not the rule. They may fax us a verification form, but do not wait for any response before mailing lenses to the patient. It often then becomes our problem to deal with if the patient is unhappy with (frequently the wrong brand or power entirely) the lenses they receive. As an employee of the practice I work for I have zero financial interest in contact lens sales. I am very very frustrated with the amount of hours I spend dealing with problems created by online contact lens retailers lack of adherence to laws about the prescription-required (HA!) medical devices that they provide.
