A PD measurement should be taken my the optician or optometrist responsible for making the glasses. A PD measurement that is incorrect can cause induced prism and could lead to negative affects and intolerance for the glasses wearer. Also, measurements such as seg height are also incredibly important for making bifocal and progressive lenses. Patients should understand that going to online vendors for glasses means that do not get glasses that are made with their best interests, and therefore best measurements, in mind. How is it fair that an optometrist be required by law to give a PD measurement on every prescription so that the patient can purchase glasses online that are incorrectly made and then have said patient come back to the office to complain about glasses that were likely made in china? It causes more problems than it's worth.
