I often see patients who have been receiving their contact lenses, a medical device, from online vendors for several years with significant damage to their corneas. I believe contact lenses should be treated in exactly the same way as any medication is. It should not be allowed to be released until there is confirmation, not a lack thereof. Additionally, these companies often call at unusual hours to get around the time window often placing calls and faxes in the evening or on weekends. There should be a standard time when these companies are allowed to call, such as 9am-6pm CT. Contact lenses are never an emergency, but often lead to emergencies. The CDC itself has said that improper contact lens use leads to 50,000 emergency room visits a year. In addition to over 900,000 doctors office visits. I hope you that you read this and require a confirmation of a contact lens Rx prior to releasing any medical devices.
