Request For Research Presentations For the PrivacyCon Conference
We propose a research presentation on consumers' attitudes towards privacy, as measured by actual user search behavior on Google in response to a privacy-related shock - in this case, the Snowden revelations of June, 2013. We document a "chilling effect" where users search less on personally sensitive material, as well as on material they think will get them in trouble with the US government. This paper, co-authored with Professor Catherine Tucker of MIT-Sloan, was completed on April 14, 2015, and has received a revise and resubmit from Management Science.
