Contact lens prescriptions should have a mandatory maximum one year expiration date from the date the patient is released by the fitter. Any third party attempting to fill a contact lens prescription must verify that prescription AND THE AMOUNT ALLOWED, either by mail, by fax, by text, or by email. NOT BY TELEPHONE. This allows verifications to be entered into a patient's record. And the verification time should be a minimum of 48 hours, not 8 business hours.
