In regards to the #621: 16 CFR Part 315: Contact Lens Rule: Request for Comment A contact lens is a medical device, and a poorly fitted lens - or one made from a material not well-suited to your eyes - can cause distorted vision, discomfort, infection, inflammation, swelling and abrasion. In rare cases, permanent eye tissue damage could result. As a prescribed medical device they should be respected as such. Online sellers have continued to commoditize these medical devices for their financial gain which should be seen as a dangerous goal. Most Doctors are small businesses. The existing Contact Lens Rule I places an additional burden on our office and has allowed resellers to ignore the requirement for a valid prescription. Active verification rather than passive should be the standard. Current verification places a burden on the doctor in terms of non-compensated staff time. Respectfully submitted, Linda Haas, ABOC
