During the June 2015 panel discussion for this workshop, there was a discussion of sharing economy companies potentially using big data to raise entry barriers or acquiring other data-rich firms to solidify a dominant position. The enclosed articles demonstrate that collection of user data by online (and offline) firms is common, that data will rarely lead to or entrench a dominant position, and that few mergers will raise concerns about loss of privacy competition.
