FTC To Host Workshop on Cross-Device Tracking Nov. 16
"Targeted" advertising is of minimal value to consumers. Any entity initiating a program to obtain information to assist advertisers is acting for the benefit of the financial gain of the advertiser, and should be ABSOLUTELY required to advise ALL internet users targeted thereby that they are attempting to obtain targeting information, the particulars of which must be spelled out, and the target given a clear and unequivocal option to prevent such activity with reference to such target. Otherwise such activities are simply phishing by unethical trolls. The FTC should render them illegal trolls, subject to substantial punitive penalties.
