The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
Recently, I have noticed many tourists staying, short-term, in my apartment building. After talking with one visitor who used Airbnb to find the apartment, I realized that they were paying almost three times the amount of rent that I am for the month. My rent already increases every year, and now I am afraid that it will increase even more once my landlord realizes he can exploit his tenants because of this increased short-term rent rate. Not only do these visitors encourage rent increases, but they also foster a hostile environment between long-term renters and tenants.
