The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
Hello, I wanted to submit a comment regarding the "sharing" economy provided by the platform known as Airbnb. I feel that such platforms are incredibly important to the growth of the US economy by providing citizens with few alternatives a means of supplemental income. After a 9-year career with ESPN in Los Angeles, I was laid off when the company closed our local office. As I was pregnant at the time, finding a new position proved difficult. [REDACTED] The fact that my husband and I are now unexpectedly living on one income [REDACTED] has but us in a very difficult situation financially. We have a small guest house that we decided to list for short-term rentals on Airbnb. We booked our first rental in February of 2015, and the income we receive from it, though small, has been enough to pay our bills without doing into debt. It is making a huge difference in allowing us to scrape by during this difficult time. I implore you, please support sharing economies such as Airbnb. Your citizens need to be allowed to pursue avenues of supplemental income that are legal and legitimate for the greater good everyone.
