The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
I am writing to provide information about sharing our home, as a source of income, on sites such as AirBNB and Homeaway. Our home has a complete in-law suite which we have transitioned into a vacation rental. We made this choice soon after we retired for the following reasons. 1. We live on a chain of lakes in a desirable area. 2. Our retirement income was not sufficient to continue living in our home without depleting our retirement savings and investments as a result of being self employed for 40 years. 3. Our real estate taxes continue to dramatically increase while providing little "or nothing" in the way of additional or beneficial services to our family. The real estate taxes in our community are now the highest in our county. 4. We can no longer afford to make major repairs or improvements to our property without additional income.
