The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
To Whom It May Concern: I lost my job in 2012 and during that time first learned about Airbnb. After months of being un or underemployed, I decided to rent rooms in my house out periodically through Airbnb. It was only through Airbnb that I did not lose my home to foreclosure. I am immensely grateful that Airbnb and other "sharing economy" organizations are allowed to operate in the United States and in my home state. The company is very well run, and it's providing a service to both guests, who might want a different experience than a hotel or for whom it might be a more affordable option, and for hosts like myself, who may need creative ways to be able to keep their mortgages current. I sincerely hope that the FTC will continue to allow the sharing economy to thrive and flourish. Thank you and regards,
