The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
My husband and I separated a year and a half ago. Since then it has been difficult for my 16 year old son and I to pay our housing expenses, even though I work full time. We very much wanted to stay in our home, especially since my mother and grandmother live across the street. We decided to become airbnb hosts to help make this possible. This would give us enough extra income to stay in our home and provide a service to others. We feel particularly good when other families stay at our house because we know it's a great space for children. When people come stay in our home, my son and I stay across the street at my mother's house. We only need to host for about one week a month to make ends meet. Hosting through airbnb has been a great way for my son and I to continue to stay in our home and near our extended family.
