I am an Airbnb host because in 2007, by husband left, taking his income with him. I was devastated knowing that my income was not enough to meet all of the household expenses. I got behind and for two years I struggles. I am a part time adjunct instructor, which was my only income. A friend told me to try Airbnb, my mortgage was behind, as well as other bills, so I tried it. It was the best thing I ever did in terms of extra income. I am not able to pay my mortgage, and all of my other expenses. The added bonus is, I have diversified my neighborhood with visitors from all over the world that support small businesses in my neighborhood. I have made new friends and provided housing for students, medical doctors and tourist coming to Chicago on a small budget. I feel like my little Airbnb business is a viable asset to the Chicago business scene, and much needed, for me and my guest alike. Afri Atiba
