The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
I was introduced to uber by accident and my intention was to just drive before and after work for a few hours work part time. I was approved on aThursday following Monday I had a fallout at my job after 16 years and resigned. Not knowing my path and needing a major resume update I was deemed to start driving. I started on the following Wednesday. And I was hooked. I fell in love with the idea and the ingenuity of the product. At first I was nervous but 2 months later I can't say anything negative. I ask each of the 900 or so rides I have done and with 100% confidence that the riders will never take taxi service again. Not to knock on taxi but everyone has a story about how miami is one of the worst cities for that service. I have had 2 sets of girls. Get kicked out of taxis in 1 in an alley and one in overtown. That to me is unacceptable As a driver my sole responsibility is to achieve the best ride possible and to make a relationship with a new rider. Connect in a way that through other services would never be possible. 2. After being full force uber I was being presented with all the problems or resistance that uber had wether legal or wether with taxi service. I had just seen a news report on a Monday. About uber and public response towards the issue. Well. I can stand and say that without question this form of ride sharing is the future. Why outlaw or have major restrictions with uber when it is the other forms of service that need the cleaning up. 3. After that news story the next day I saw a taxi driver turn himself into authorities for a rape charge during a fare ride he gave one of his regular customers. Again another despicable and unnacceptable act. I still drive today and it is definitely my only income. I need uber. Uber saved my life"
