The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
I work full-time in the IT industry and my schedule fluctuates daily. For many years this has prevented me from working a second job to help support my family. My wife is a full-time student and she relies on my income to pay the bills. Until Uber came around we were barely getting by and the only hope in sight was that she would be working once she finished school. However, I have jump-started that by nearly three years by working for Uber. Uber allows me to set my own hours which for me is important as my schedule at work changes often due to issues that arise. If I have to stay at work several hours late to fix a technical problem I don't have to worry about losing my second job. Now I have the freedom to set my own hours outside of my full-time job and Uber provides me with a steady income of an extra $400-$500 per month when I work hard and put forth an effort to drive every weekend. I am thankful for Uber and so is my family and our pocketbook!
