The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
I am retired, living on a fixed income on the Space Coast of Florida. Before retiring, I lived in the Northeast, where the cost of living is much higher than where I live now. For the first time in 5 years, my employment with Uber has enabled me to plan a vacation to see my children and grandchildren, who still reside in the Northeast. My fixed income did not allow me the extra funds I needed to travel to see my family. I now have that opportunity, all with thanks to my job with Uber. Why should Uber be penalized for providing an option to residents seeking a safe, reliable and convenient method of riding to and from destinations. This is the 21st century, and passengers should have available options to travel from place to place. Uber provides one of those options.
