The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
For the last five years I have been hosting guests in the second bedroom of my home. As a 73 year old with insufficient income I signed up for the money, which has been great and has allowed me to stay in my home by paying the mortgage. What I also have gotten is the great pleasure of meeting people from all over the world. They make me feel needed and valuable. I have hosted hundreds of guests with not one single negative experience. At first I didn't host men, out of caution. But a local company's HR booked a man who was a joy to host. After that I've been hosting men, women, couples and children very successfully. With Airbnb's lavish insurance I feel safe and protected. With Airbnb & Roomorama's managing the money in advance, I have complete trust in the reliability of my guest and getting paid. My guests always spend money at the local restaurants and grocery stores. They love shopping in the unique neighborhood stores. Without the income from hosting guests, I could not live in my home. And my life would not be as rich and filled with life if not for my guests.
