We have a 6 bedroom home in rural Charles City County. Our original intention was to use the house as a bed and breakfast. However, my wife and I do not have the time at this point in our lives to run it exclusively as a bed and breakfast or special event venue. We have occasionally have had renters for up to three months at a time when Colonial Downs still had a thoroughbred race season, but now we have lost that business. We started using Airbnb for our own personal travel about two years ago, and we have thoroughly enjoyed the special way that hosts have made us feel. There are many times that we have not been able to find an available hotel room so Airbnb has really been helpful to ensure we had alternative accommodations. In the fall, my wife's sorority is having a reunion of sorority sisters in Blacksburg, VA. They have rented several houses and an entire bed and breakfast, along with many hotel rooms. Since it is a home football game for Virginia Tech, every hotel is fully booked for at least 6 months in advance.
