I recently went through a nasty divorce and in my settlement got a cabin in mountains that we had jointly owned. My wife got our main home in Columbia, SC. Our only child and daughter decided to live with me. in an effort to minimize the impact of the changes in her life, I decided not to move to my home in the mountains (2.5 hours away) but to rent an apartment in the town where she could keep her friends and graduate from the high school in which she had been attending. in order or do that I needed to sell the mountain home, I had the house listed for sale for over a year without a single offer, causing considerable financial problems for me. I thought that I only had two options: - I was going to have to move into the house or lose it to foreclosure. I learned about AirBNB and through it, have been able to rent this house for weekend getaways, allowing me to live in the town and be the dad that I needed to without losing my home. Please allow me(and I am sure many other people) to continue to save their homes through private rentals!
