As a home owner with a pre-existing basement rental unit (legal) we have found That renting out the space via Airbnb to be more positive in a variety of ways. First, it generates more income with less wear and tear on the living space. It offsets our mortgage payment considerably. Also, we were able to keep family heirlooms since it rents as a furnished space. Also, welcoming guests to our city from all over the world allows me to at ambassador. I have made wonderful acquaintances and I believe international visitors have had a true American neighborhood experience, one you can't get in a hotel. Finally, the Airbnb internet platform allows me to meet and vet guests prior to renting. I have turned a few guests diwn because I didn't le their answers to my questions. Overall, Airbnb allows us to make portent income as we prepare to retire and meet some wonderful people in the process
