I operate and am the owner and artist of a small art gallery in Paris Ky. Art sales have been meager in our current economy and especially in our region. I have been able to successfully rent out the upstairs apartment with airbnb. This has supplemented the gallery income and has kept the business afloat. Not only has it helped out the gallery, but restaurants, shops, pubs and eateries have benefitted in our area simply from visitors being here. Old downtown Paris is barely surviving, bringing tourists and visitors to this area has been a blessing. The only other place for people to stay in Paris has been a motel on the outskirts of town, with airbnb we have had numerous guests that have been able to stay downtown and enjoy the amenities within walking distance. Everyone of our guests has loved the old downtown and the ability to walk to shops, restaurants etc. This situation has been helpful to the gallery and all other surrounding businesses in a very economically stressed small rural town. Empty storefronts, drugs and prostitution have been the norm in Paris, now we have galleries, antique and specialty stores, restaurants, a brewery and pubs. Keeping guests downtown has been wonderful and airbnb has been crucial in this respect.
