At the end of 2014, I had a relationship end that caused me to be in a rental home by myself during a career upheaval, I am a middle-aged woman. I brought in a roommate, but had difficulty relying on that individual to pay rent on time. I decided to give up on rommates and convert part of the rental to an Airbnb. Due to the sharing economy and my involvement with Aitbnb, I have now been able to confidently pay my rent each month, I am able to continue my transition to a Freelance career, and most importantly, I am able to stay in my home with my dog. Had it not been for Airbnb, I would have been forced out of Seattle due to the sharply rising rent and home prices. Being able to supplement my income by incorporating the sharing economy has made all the difference in my ability to survive in a country where income equality does not allow for many women to survive on their own.
