I have been an Airbnb host since November 2014. We have a 4 bedroom 3 bathroom house in Scottsdale. We rent out the attached guest suite (with a private entrance). Airbnb basically pays for 6 months of our mortgage. We have a newborn baby and a 4 year old. It's hard for me to justify going back to work full time when most of my earnings would go to childcare. Airbnb allows me the freedom to be a stay at home mom. We have met lots of friendly people through hosting. It's a community build on trust and common decency. My aunt started hosting her home about 2 years ago. She and her husband are retired and were having a hard time making ends meet. They now rent out their home in Rodondo Beach during the summer. When their home is rented, they go and stay with their son in Hollywood or their daughter in Los Gatos California. Airbnb has given them the freedom to live a comfortable life. Allows them to vacation, buy nice things for their grandchildren. Most importantly it allows them to truly enjoy being retired. Money would be very tight for us without the additional $6-8K a year we will be generating from airbnb. I'm also encouraged to do some traveling myself and stay with other airbnb hosts. It's better for my children to stay in a house than in a hotel. I just can't say enough good things about the company. Thanks for your time, Katherine Rutigliano [REDACTED]
