The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
As a host on Airbnb I have been able to utilize my spare room as a source of income which enables me to afford to buy heating oil in the winter, pay my property taxes and my home owners insurance. Until airbnb came along I was struggling to keep a roof over my head. My only income is social security and a small savings. When guests come they spend their money in town which depends on seasonal business. I love airbnb, it literally saved me from the streets. Most people who stay here with me are Europeans so I get to meet people I wouldn't ever have a chance to meet. They get to stay with a local person who will make sure they enjoy themselves and see Cape Cod like a local. It works out for all.
