Dear FTC, I am writing to share what working with Airbnb has meant to my life and family. I am a single woman advancing in years(early 60's) but to young to receive my Social Security without substantial Penalty. I am to young to move in with my Daughter but to old to work full time at a normal corporate job. I have no retirement and no other family. And I have a love of people and a gift of hospitality. I have recently left the corporate rat race to take care of my grandkids in their home and entertain visitors in my home. I pay taxes on my income from being their Nanny(or NiNi which they sweetly call me) and on the income I receive from Airbnb. I get to impart love and wisdom from my heart to my grandkids and my daughter isn't concerned about the children's welfare when I am with them. She knows they are loved and being brought up with right values, protection and appreciation for all that we have. I will live with them when the time comes. But not yet!! I have owned my home for 11 years so I survived the crash of 2008 but only because I share my home with other single woman short and long term each contributing to the needs of the household. It is cheaper then renting an apartment! I was a realtor of 10 years when the crash came about. I find many woman in my same situation but they unfortunately don't own there houses. I still have a mortgage on my property. Recently, in the last few months, I have discovered the platform of Airbnb. Sharing a space on Airbnb helps me keep my home, pay the mortgage, medical bills, and just make ends meet. I have met wonderful people from all over the world who, without the lower cost of visiting my home, could not afford to come and be tourists(boosting the local economy) in my city. Utilizing Airbnb's messaging tools are fantastic and I know exactly who comes to my home and can set the parameters myself. Like no single men with out sisters or Mom's with them! It's amazing in this crazy day and age we live in, I have great trust and feel the safety of my personal information because of the messaging tools that help hosts get to know the people they choose to share their space with. Airbnb is an important option for middle class families in America to earn extra money, with the cost of living so high and salaries and jobs so low and scarce I personally have to work 3 jobs just to stay afloat. By doing what I am great at and doing what I love make it all worth it. I also appreciate that Airbnb will supply me with a 1099 at the end of the year to keep my taxes straight. Let me remind you that the guests who stay in Airbnb listings generate sustainable, local economic activity that supports the small businesses in communities across the country. I am a total support local kind of a gal and appreciate that while I have always had to work hard, at the end of the day I feel rewarded and and shop in my own community. I hope that in all of your conferences and regulating meetings you do not take this awesome option out of the hands of the few that are able to take advantage of the platform in order to boost big business and once again take economy out of the hands of the small business owner and Mom and Pop establishments. Thank you
