The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
Airbnb enables "strangers" to become friends. I share space in my home so that folks traveling through my area can connect with someone who can highlight the magnificent tiny gems my surroundings/neighborhood has to offer. People who stay with me generally want "grass roots" connections that hotels can not offer. In so much of life we are invisible. This type of connection makes people human. With every guest people initiate as strangers, come as acquaintances and leave as friends. The value for me is in the relationships established. The price I charge is for the maintenance of the sleeping space.
