The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
I am a 26 year old married female. My husband and I are both college graduates who have successful careers in corporate America. We are working hard to pay off student loans and save for our future. A year ago we decided to move from Baltimore, MD to Knoxville, TN so I could pursue my Masters Degree. During this year we bought a small house to live in. We decided to put our house on AirBnB when I received an opportunity to intern with Apple in Austin, TX. Moving to Austin for the summer was a hard financial decision for us. If it weren't for the occupancy we've had from AirBnB, I would have had to pass on the opportunity. Paying a mortgage and a short term lease for the summer while also trying to pay down student loans is tough to do for a family like mine. Fortunately, AirBnB gave us the opportunity to cover our mortgage and make my career dreams possible. I firmly believe this wouldn't have been an option without renting my home. My experience in community sharing has been positive and hope to use AirBnB in the future.
