The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
I have been unemployed for two years now, and Airbnb has not only allowed me to rent out a room in my home for income to cover my bills, but allowed me to get involved again in my community. I often connect guests with local businesses that benefit my guests and these business owners who are always excited to hear from me about new guests coming. I live in a small town and every customer and dollar counts. Airbnb allows me to contribute again to my community, pay my bills, and meet new people from all over the world - and give me a local perspective and local businesses to patron that will never appear in the tourist magazines and brochures. This sharing economy is as American as it gets. It allows us to be independent, contribute to and involved in our community, and represent the best America has to offer visitors from around the world.
