I was looking for a safe way to rent out my spare room during RBC Heritage Golf week when I found AirBnB. It covered all my concerns about safety and payment and I have been renting the spare room since. I had to get a SC business license and I pay accommodation and sales taxes to SC and Accommodation and beach taxes to Hilton Head Island. My guests contribute to the local economy while they spend their weekend or week long vacations with me. AirBnB is a Godsend. It is allowing me to work at home while I care for my partner who has Alzheimer's. I don't know how I would make ends meet without the income. He had to stop working in 2007 and I couldn't go to where the jobs were so I virtually had to stop working full time in 2008. Now with AirBnB and my spare room, I can rest knowing that I will be able to care for him at home.
