The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
My wife and I are PhD students studying biochemistry and physics, respectively. In order to live near our workplaces, we needed to get a condo that was a little outside of our initial price range. However, through airbnb we have been able to afford our apartment. It has provided enough income for us to not worry about taking part-time jobs to help pay for bills so that we can devote more time to our research on causes of mental retardation (my wife in biochemistry) and the origins of the universe (myself in physics). Airbnb has provided us an opportunity to share a convenient and affordable location with the many medical and health researchers who come to Emory for research and interviews while providing us the income we need to focus on our studies.
