The "Sharing" Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators A Federal Trade Commission Workshop
The Airbnb experience has been a life changer for me. I have owned my home for over 9 years and am lucky enough to have a 2 on one property. Last summer I decided to move out of my larger home and move into the smaller unit and try out airbnb. My home sleeps 10 people in beds and I am able to let families share their vacations together as well as a couple of families at a time if they choose. It is always more fun to stay together in a comfortable environment where you can buy groceries and share the experience together. I am very cautious about who I rent to because I don't want to be the neighbor who is renting to a bunch of partiers and obnoxious people. My neighbors are my main concern as we are all very close. This last year, business has taken a turn and I would have lost my home if it hadn't been for the opportunity to rent it to vacationers. I am able to make 3 times the amount of money doing a vacation rental as opposed to a straight rental. I have had the opportunity to meet some amazing people that I have formed life long friendships with and even traveled to see them in their country. The revenue it has generated for my local restaurants and bars has been amazing as well.
